Welcome to LMS Guidance
Because of the exciting changes that occur during the middle school years, there are many different reasons you, or your child, may want to speak with one of the school counselors. One reason may be in the area of academics: the classes you (your child) are taking. Ms. Gallant and Ms. Bobb want to be sure you are learning as much as you can in each of your (your child's) classes.
Another subject that we talk to students about is friendships. Friendships may change in the middle shool years. Sometimes it is very exciting because there are so many new friends to make. Sometimes it can be confusing because old friendships change. The middle school years can be some of the toughest years in terms of friendships.
Ms. Gallant and Ms. Bobb are also available to discuss emotions: the way you (your child) feel inside. Sometimes things happen in your (your child's) life that you have no control over, such as parents divorcing, death of a family member or friend, moving, etc. When things like this happen, it hurts and you (your child) may need to talk to someone about the hurt. We also talk with students about good things that happen, and we love to hear how you are feeling!
The LMS school counselors want to help you work through anything that you may have questions or concerns about. If you have a concern, come and talk. We are here to help you!
Guidance Lessons
Ms. Gallant and Ms. Bobb will be working closely with the health teachers to deliver developmental guidance lessons. These lessons will take place during health classes. Information that was discussed will be available on this page for you to view as well. Topics may include, but are not limited to, character education (respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, citizenship), social skills, study skills, career development, and many other topics. If there is something that you would like one of the counselors to focus on with your child, please speak with your child's counselor and individual or group counseling may be recommended.
Career lessons are normally completed with 8th grade students in December. Students are provided with information on Naviance, and are able to complete a Holland Personality Inventory and learn their Holland Personality Type. Based on their personality type, students are also given different careers that fit into those categories. Students are able to view salary ranges, educational requirements (as well as colleges that offer these programs), typical activities and responsibilities.
Career Lessons for 7th grade students are generally delivered in March. 7th grade students are also presented with information on Naviance and are able to discover their own individual learning style. Students are asked a series of 100 questions that they answer based on their agreement (strongly agree, agree, neither agree or disagree, disagree, or strongly disagree). At the end of the survey, they are given a report detailing their learning preferences and encouraged to go home and share it with their parents.
All students are given log-in information and are able to create their own password. Please contact Ms. Bobb for more information.
